Like biting into a ripe white peach, juicy, rich, creamy and sweet, yet offers bright acidity and minerality as a balance to the sweetness. Will leave your mouth watering for more.
“…. this wine first feels like biting into a ripe white peach, juicy, rich, creamy and sweet, with a full aroma. Yet the wine offers great minerality and acidity to balance the sweetness and make it, well... a delicious joy. Most of the fruit comes from the famous grand cru vineyard site “Würtzgarten” (spice garden) in the town of Ürzig, which gives the wine its spicy profile.”—Importer’s Note
The history of Mönchhof (the "Monks House or Monks Court") goes back to 1177. Still in the Eymael family's possession is a document signed by Pope Alexander III, which shows the Cloister Himmerod (a Cistercian abbey) as having holdings at Ürzig as early as 1177. The monks from Himmerod were active as winegrowers in the area and they completed the present estate building and underground cellars before 1509. They continued their work at the Mönchhof until 1804, when the estate was purchased by the Eymael family. For over 200 years they have carried on the winemaking tradition of the monks. The results are consistently superb and , year in and year out, one of the finest values in white wine to be found anywhere
