87 Points--Wine Advocate DESCRIPTION/REVIEWS: (Previous vintage review) "Absolutely spectacular, the 2005 Syrah Melville Vineyard shows classic black olive, blackberry, bacon fat, and earthiness with an inky purple color, full-bodied richness, as well as a hint of charcoal. Great intensity matched by equally impressive texture and a multi-dimensional mouthfeel result in a terrific Syrah to drink over the next 5-6 years. " Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
California Cult wines, a concept of the millennium year of 2000, basically is defined as a wine of very high quality, which is both expensive and scarce (even unavailable). The San Francisco Chronicle cited Samsara as one of the notable emerging Cult wines from the Central Coast area. Only 118 cases of this wine was produced. The flavors are well integrated and flow gracefully into a lingering, persistant finish. Powerful and elegant, excellent length, and a refined finish.
The Buddhist word “Samsara” illustrates the part of each human being that longs to control every aspect of their existence, through a process of attachment, desire and greed. To reach a state of Nirvana, one must pass through the world of Samsara. The winemaker of Samsara strives to achieve in his wines an interpretation of the tenuous balance between the power of nature and elements beyond our control, and the human desire to reach perfection.
